The project will be going through the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department Master Planning Process shortly as outlined in the following Goodyear Independent article:
The adventure park proposal draws on lessons learned from the three existing man-made whitewater centers in the U.S. located in Charlotte, North Carolina; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and Montgomery, Alabama. See the “Similar Projects” section for more information on each.
The non-profit facility will be tailored to:
- Arizona’s climate and recreational needs
- Provide inexpensive year-round recreation for the general public
- New paddle sports events and swiftwater rescue training opportunities
- Increase flash flood public awareness and education
- Promote environmental stewardship
- Year-round events and programming in unique outdoor gathering spaces
- Develop healthier, more connected, and engaged communities
The project proposes to utilize the existing Estrella Park picnic/turf area, ramadas, nature center, and
infrastructure for large events, festivals, concerts, and public programming. Providing things for people
to do and experience, while also assisting with generating revenue for the project to be viable.
Public participation, involvement, and support are essential for Arizona to have this non-profit public good facility.
